Strength of Materials by R. Subramanian, Oxford University Press, 2010, R. Subramanian, Oxford University Press, 2010 Category:Books about engineering Category:Non-fiction books about physicsEditor's Note: This article was originally published on April 5th, 2014. We're republishing it because it's a brilliant piece of writing from a writer we love, and we're so impressed by his ability to analyze and make an impact in just a few hundred words. Enjoy. Sometimes we just want to know: What the hell is wrong with the economy? No, not the question of, "What is wrong with the economy?" Which is, after all, a question that, with its tired wisdom, is often asked and answered. What we're talking about here is, "What the hell is wrong with our economy?" It's the economy that makes an entire town's worth of people in one metropolitan area want to leave. It's the economy that causes parents to spend hours on the internet to find out what their child is doing, not to mention the hours wasted by the parents themselves, at work and in traffic, trying to find their children. It's the economy that, on a national level, taxes people who make above the median income, and leaves those who make below the median income no tax at all. It's the economy that plows tax dollars into wars to keep people from fleeing. It's the economy that fills our nation's prisons. It's the economy that makes gas-guzzling SUVs and other gas-guzzling vehicles seem desirable and necessary. It's the economy that provides weapons and vehicles of war. It's the economy that fills the pockets of the wealthiest people in this country and the pockets of the government itself, leaving the rest of us to pick up the bills for anything that is put into motion to perpetuate this economy, from health care to public education. So, as we stand on the precipice of "possibly" being led by another Democrat to another four years of this insanity, we sit here and ask: What the hell is wrong with our economy? Because if you're not picking up on it yet, we're facing a dire situation. This country, or at least parts of this country, is in the tank for everything that has to do with more and more debt and less and less concern for the consequences. That is, more and more debt and less and less concern for the consequences
